Parking & Safety

Background
In an effort to improve safety in the Lynch School parking lots, the Traffic and Safety Committee, made up of staff, parents, Winchester Police Department, professional traffic consultants and Winchester DPW, have outlined the following parking lot procedures. The modifications included are phase one of a continued effort to improve safety in and around our school campus. The lots will be referred to as follows, Horn Pond Brook Parkway (“HPBP”} and Brantwood Lot. Please feel free to contact John Dupuis, principal with any questions.

How can you help?
More than 400 cars enter the Lynch campus at morning drop off and pick up times. Families can help alleviate parking lot congestion by encouraging more:

  • Carpooling
  • Off campus pick up/drop off sites *
  • Walking school buses **
  • Get there early! – Drop off begins at 8:00 am!

* Safe locations either near Woodside Road or Horn Pond Brook Parkway ** Get together with neighbors and assign parents to walk to/ from school with groups of students

Safe Alternatives to Parking
In order to reduce congestion in the parking lots at drop off and pick up times, please consider alternatives.

In both lots, Brantwood Road and Horn Pond Brook Parkway, traffic circles make for safe and efficient drop off areas. Both will be staffed with volunteer valet service beginning at 8:00 am.

At pick up, please consider off campus pick up zones in the surrounding neighborhoods. Both Woodside Road and Horn Pond Parkway have side roads that are in safe and close walking distance to the campus.

Lynch has even modified the K-2 release policy to support more walking and off campus pick up zones. With parent authorization, K-2 students with older siblings may now accompany these siblings upon exiting the school.

Parking Lot Procedures
Morning Drop Off
Always use traffic circles when dropping off in either Brantwood Lot or Horn Pond Brook Parkway Lot.

Parents: No need to exit your vehicle! Beginning at 8:00 am, volunteer valets will escort children out of cars.

* Ensure your child is ready and exits the car curbside.

No parking in or around traffic circles. TICKETS WILL BE ISSUED!

Park and Escort Child
Whether escorting your child in to school or greeting them at door at end of day, please park in a legal, marked spot.

No parking in or around traffic circles. TICKETS WILL BE ISSUED!

Since spots are limited and fill up early, (especially at afternoon pick up), consider parking on or around Horn Pond Brook Parkway, where there is ample parking.

Circling in Lot
Entering parking lots and circling is discouraged at afternoon pick up since there is already so much congestion. If you need to pick up your child and remain in your vehicle, consider arriving a few minutes after school is out to avoid congestion or consider an off campus meeting spot.

* Parent volunteer valets needed, please contact copresidents@lynchparents.org if you are interested in helping.

Intraday Parking
Parent volunteers and visitors should park in spots marked as “Visitor” parking in the Horn Pond Brook Parkway Lot or along Horn Pond Brook Parkway and the surrounding neighborhood. The Brantwood Road entrance will be closed intra-day since children use the parking lot during recess to play.
